A-level drama study: ‘The Metamorphosis of Narcissus’

Having been blown away last week by Man Ray’s exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, I purchased his collection of movies… ‘Le retour à la raison’, ‘Ballet Mecanique’, ‘Emak Bakia’ etc.

Whist these films where obviously revolutionary in the 1920′s, I found myself somewhat bored by the repetitive and simplistic images… It is crazy to think that the images of the beautiful Lee Miller in ‘Le Retour à la Raison’ (The Return to Reason) which caused riots upon its first showing would now hardly cause the eyelid to flutter!

Since looking at the work of Salvador Dali during my A-level in Theatre Studies (2011-2012), I find myself particularly captivated by surrealist art. Watching Man Ray’s film brought me to remember a short film I had put together during my research into the stimulus for our practical exam piece.

The stimulus we were given with which to create a 30 minute devised piece of work was Dali’s painting ‘The Metamorphosis of Narcissus’. I became completely entranced by the concept of narcissistic personality disorder and the work of many surrealist artists e.g. David Bowie, Igor Stravinsky, and many others. I got very carried away with my research into the coursework that ultimately only made up 10% of our final grade!

My blog has been experiencing some, I suppose you could say ‘technical difficulties’… Or you could say it has been the victim of sheer neglectance… I have not been taking the time to post ANYTHING… And that’s such poor effort on my part.

Nonetheless and moving on, starting from today this blog is going to be hip-hop n’ happenin’. IT’S GOING TO BE LIVE.

I’m gunna have to be doing some serious back tracking though first, so forgive me for that. I have got a LOT to post about regarding what’s happened in my GAP YAH so far…

Ok so I’m not tooting my own horn or anything, but you see this coat…

Well friends have said they would pay aprox £150 for it…

I’m a little stinge when it comes to my wallet however and I wouldn’t pay so much…

I found it for $30!!!!!! That’s £18.46.

All I’m saying is: ABUSE THE SALES, they’re amaze-balls!

Seriously you can’t even see me under all the bags I’m carrying on to the train with me. Bags filled only with “essentials” of course? No, none of it is essential but in this material world I can’t live without it all.

There is actually something hilarious about boarding a really long vehicle, filled with seats and the odd table, with a load of strangers and then going places. I haven’t laughed out loud about this but it’s funny in the same way that if you say your name over and over again it begins to sound ridiculous.

I can now drive which is something that I can genuinely say I have wanted to be able to do all my life. However trying to be economical I, yet again, board the train. Or rather, my bags and I board the train.

Haha the ticket man just walked straight past me without checking my ticket. Maybe you really can’t see me under all these bags?!

Barbs: The New Generation.

When we were young my sister and I had 3 barbies and 1 ken between us. One day Jordi decided that we needed another Ken. So, without any consultation with me, she shaved the hair off 1 of our Barbies’ head.

There we were left 2 Barbies fighting between the classic Ken and the rather androgynous looking barbie to be partner in Barbie shenanigans.

10 years later however and you’d probably take your Barbie to have her hair cut professionally. These barbs aint toys, they are works of art.

For example… Whilst nannying today I had the pleasure of bumping into Wills & Kate!

The four year old I was looking after and I had some serious fun playing with these…

I’m SERIOUSLY tempted to go get myself some of these new generation Barbies myself….
